1. Infinitive with to:

agree, choose, decide, fail, help, learn, manage, need, offer, promise, refuse, seem, want

(interrupt one activity to begin another)

2. Verbs with prepositions:

accuse of, agree to, to be afraid of, depend on, dream of, insist on, look forward to, object to, persist in, succeed in, suspect of, thanks for, think of

I’m afraid of flying.

2. Verbs followed by an Object + the Infinitive with to:

advice, allow, encourage, motivate, order, persuade, recommend, remind, teach

She recommended me to read this book.

Remember

1. I remember to bring your book.
   (didn’t forget to do it)
2. I remember answeringthis question passing my IELTS test. (to have memory of doing sth.)

Verbs followed by an Object + the Infinitive without to:

won’t, make, can help, let, hear, notice, see

Let me go.

Try

1. We tried to pass the IELTS test last summer. (we made an effort)
2. We tried reducing our prices. (have done sth. as an experiment)

After Adjective/adverb + enough +to infinitive:

She is old enough.

Like

1. I like seeing my friends. (enjoy)
2. I like to phone my mother once a week. (good idea, usual, habitual thing)

It is/was +Adjective +of+object + to infinitive:

It was kind of you to come.

Would

like/prefer/love/hate to

I’d like to go for a walk.

I’d prefer to drink coffee.

I’d love to join you for lunch.

too+Adjecyive/Adverb +to infinitive:

You are too tired to go.

Forget

1. She forgot to tell me her plans. (She didn’t tell me, although she should have)
2. She forgot telling me her plans. She told me, but then she forgot having done so

Regret

1. We regret to inform you that you have failed your exam. (polite or formal way of apology)
2. I very much regret saying what I’ve said. (I wish that I hadn’t said that).

Verbs taking Infinitive or gerund without no change in meaning:

begin, start, continue, cease, can’t, bear, intend, advice, allow, permit, recommend.
